The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) has helped to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community since its inception in 1975. The NSBE chapter here at the University of Missouri strives to meet these directives through innovative programming. Some of these programs include weekly tutoring at St. Luke’s After School Program, Guaranteed 4.0, mentor-mentee pairing, and the #STEMBlackHistory Challenge to name a few. For our efforts in the first semester, our chapter was awarded the “Most Outstanding Chapter in the MO Zone” at Region V’s Fall Regional Conference.
Two major ideals that we value in this chapter are collaboration and the concept of NSBE Family. Throughout the course of the year, we have partnered with many different organizations and departments around campus to help further our goals. However, when we form a partnership, we strive to make sure that both entities receive mutual benefit. NSBE Family is what has allowed chapter members to thrive within the College of Engineering. We take pride in having such a close-knit community of engineers who support each other daily.
